Newgrounds Login is required for medals to work - but the game should work the same regardless. It's totally optional.

I guess the text comes from a generic Newgounds Passport login form.
NewgoundsIO comes with medals and scoreboard features (also provide your name so game can greet you I guess).
Scoreboards have a 'Social' filter so you can compare scores to your friends.

This game uses medals only, and I wasn't able to opt out of other features (maybe misconfigured it - long time since I used it in my previous game).
